RAM Report ## Overview The RAM (Responsibility Assignment Matrix) Report maps your project's Work Breakdown Structure against the people and organizations responsible for each element. It is an **interactive pivot grid**: fields can be dragged between four named areas (Rows, Columns, Data, Filter) to reshape the view on the fly, letting you answer different questions from the same data without running a separate report. By default the RAM shows WBS Level 2 on columns and CAMs on rows, with Budget cost displayed in the cells. If your project uses a hierarchical Organizational Breakdown Structure (OBS), the OBS hierarchy replaces the flat CAM list on rows; giving you a compliance-ready responsibility matrix for government contracting or formal project governance. **URL:** `/Estimating/CostEstimatingReports/RAM` The report is also listed under **Budget > Budget Reports** and under **Reporting**. It opens with your current project preselected; choosing a different project here also changes the current project for the rest of Dash360. ## Prerequisites * A project must be selected before the report loads. * Estimating module access is required. *** ## How the Pivot Grid Works The RAM is built on a pivot grid with a **field panel** across the top of the report. The panel has four drop zones: | Zone | What goes here | Default | | ----------- | ------------------------------------- | -------------------------------------- | | **Rows** | Fields that define the row headers | CAM (or OBS Level 3 when hierarchical) | | **Columns** | Fields that define the column headers | WBS Level 2 | | **Data** | Numeric measures shown in cells | Cost | | **Filter** | Fields used to filter but not display | Cost Class, set to Budget | To change the layout, drag any field chip from one zone to another. For example, drag WBS Level 1 from the unused fields list into the Rows zone to group by top-level WBS instead of CAM. Changes apply immediately without reloading the page. The **Field Chooser** button (column chooser icon in the toolbar) opens a popup with all available fields organized by zone. Use it to add fields that aren't currently shown anywhere in the panel. Click **Apply** to update the grid, or **Cancel** to discard your changes. *** ## Default Layout When a project is first selected, the pivot grid loads with this default configuration: * **Columns:** WBS Level 2 * **Rows:** CAM (or OBS Level 3 if the project uses hierarchical OBS) * **Data:** Cost * **Filter:** Cost Class, set to Budget Each cell shows the total budgeted cost at the intersection of that column and row. Grand total rows and columns are shown at the edges of the grid. Numbers follow the project's registry formatting settings (thousands separators and decimal places). *** ## Available Fields All fields listed below are available in the field panel and Field Chooser: ### Organizational Fields | Field | Description | | ----------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------- | | **CAM** | Control Account Manager assigned to the work package | | **OBS** | OBS code and description combined (hierarchical OBS only) | | **OBS Number** | OBS code only | | **OBS Description** | OBS description only | | **OBS Level 1–9** | Individual levels of the OBS hierarchy (hierarchical OBS only) | | **OBS Level 1–9 Number** | OBS code at each level | | **OBS Level 1–9 Description** | OBS description at each level | ### WBS Fields | Field | Description | | ----------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | **WBS Level 1–9** | WBS hierarchy levels (number of levels depends on the project's WBS depth) | | **WBS Level 1–9 Number** | WBS code at each level | | **WBS Level 1–9 Description** | WBS description at each level | ### Cost Fields | Field | Description | | ----------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | **Cost** | The single cost measure shown in the cells | | **Cost Class** | The cost class dimension (Budget, Actual, Forecast, or others). It sits in the Filter zone set to Budget by default; pick another class there, or move it to Rows or Columns to compare classes side by side. | | **Resource Type** | Labor, Non-Labor, or Travel. Add it to Rows or Columns to break the cost down by type. | ### Notebook and Code Fields | Field | Description | | ----------------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | **\[Notebook Category]** | One field per configured work package notebook category. Useful for filtering or grouping by narrative metadata. | | **WBS Number / WBS Description / Work Package** | Identity fields for finer-grained rows or columns | | **\[WBS Code File 1 to 10]** | One field per code file linked to the WBS | *** ## Filters | Filter | Description | | ----------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | **Project** | Required. Preselected from your current session. Loads the WBS structure and cost data for the selected project. | Cost class selection is handled directly in the field panel through the **Cost Class** field in the Filter zone rather than a separate filter control. *** ## OBS Modes The row structure of the RAM depends on how the project's OBS is configured: **Non-hierarchical OBS (default):** The CAM field appears in the Rows area. Each row represents one CAM, and cells show that CAM's cost for each WBS column. **Hierarchical OBS:** When the project has a hierarchical OBS structure configured, the OBS levels (1–9) are built as separate fields and OBS Level 3 defaults to the Rows area. The CAM field is still available in the field panel and can be added to any zone. This mode supports multi-level OBS drill-down directly within the pivot grid. *** ## Pivot Grid Features | Feature | Description | | ------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | **Expand / Collapse All** | Expand or collapse all row or column groups at once using the expand-all control | | **Sort by Summary** | Click a column or row header to sort rows or columns by their cell values | | **Sort by Label** | Sort row or column headers alphabetically | | **Header Filter** | Click the filter icon on any header to filter by specific values; the filter list shows only relevant values | | **Grand Total Row** | A Grand Total row at the bottom sums all visible rows | | **Grand Total Column** | A Grand Total column on the right sums all visible columns | | **Row/Column Subtotals** | Row and column subtotals are hidden by default to keep the view clean; they can be shown by right-clicking a header | *** ## Saved Views [Saved Views](/user-guide/concepts/section-views) save the full pivot grid state; which fields are in which zone, any active filters, and sort order. Use the **View** selector to: * Switch between saved views instantly * Save your current layout as a new user view * Load a system view created by an administrator User views are saved per-user. System views are shared across all users. Applying one of your own views turns on auto-save: field moves, expansions and filters are written back to that view after a short pause, and the view is restored the next time you open the report. Views saved on the previous version of the RAM are listed for continuity and apply read-only; to keep a modified layout, save it as a new view. *** ## Exporting Click the **Download** icon (top right) and select **Export to Excel** to download the current pivot grid. The export reflects the current layout; all visible fields, their zone assignments, and applied filters are included. ***
